Today, Kurdish Rugs refer to rugs woven by Kurds. Kurdish people live within the part of the Mede.
The Medes (Kurds, Azeri) were part of the new confederation.
During the 17th century, the Kurdish province was
divided between the Ottomans and Safavids.
The material used in this gold rug is excellent lamb wool (Kurk) on a pure silk foundation. Also, a few parts of patterns ad flowers are made of silk alongside all the colours are organically extracted from the plants and flowers of nature.
Outstanding Rug, All Over Paradise Carpet, Handwoven Gold Rug 153x214 cm
Hence most Kurdish rugs are predominantly woven using symmetrical knots.
Most designs are geometrical shapes, i.e. rhombus, diamonds, equilateral,
paisley, and Herati designs. Introducing floral motifs must have started during
importing fabric from the western dealers.
These rugs are made in villages by the native people and in workshops. The pile
of Kurdish rugs is almost wool on the cotton foundation, except for some
antique rugs with silk foundations. The weaver uses thread in the weft, and
because of this, the carpet gets a typically spotted backside.
We have recently hand-picked individual Kurdish rugs; which some of the best artisans are engaged in producing
magnificent rugs and carpets.
These pieces are from an organic limited edition outstanding collection, with hand-spun wools and organic dyes.
Great attention has been paid to the design and structure of these rugs, which
adds longevity and durability.
Kurdish rugs are well-known for their strength, durability, vibrant colours, and
stylish patterns. It is vital to mention that Senneh kilims are known for their
refined weaves, original designs, elegance and durability.
