Fine Antique Large Size Caucasian Shirvan Rug
About the Item
A finely knotted antique Caucasian Shirvan rug, distinguished by a rare large size. The pattern is composed of a series of five interconnected hexagonal devices with a stepped outline, flanked at each end by a large red flaming palmette, typical for this group of Shirvan weavings. The main border is decorated by the iconic 'leaf and wineglass' motif on a soft yellow background.
Shirvan rugs have always been appreciated for their geometric ornamentations, and represent one of the most coveted families of antique Caucasian weavings. The relatively large format of the current example opens up a myriad of possibilities for its use within a decorative context, from scatter rug to an elegant entry hall carpet.
