About the Item

Hand knotted in wool originating from East Turkestan circa 1890-1900, this antique rug connotes a classic Khotan rug design with a classic approach to transitional colorway celebrated in this oriental rug family. Further enjoying the classic pomegranate field pattern this classic rug family tends to favor (a widely regarded design believed to signify fertility and abundance), there’s a subtle juxtaposition between the more forgiving stylistic field geometry and the intricate meandering cloudband border that brings out the grand play of blue, red, beige, black, and gold tones with a meticulous craftsmanship that’s been particularly well preserved over time.
