Nineteenth Century Tekke Main Carpet
About the Item
Tekke carpets are instantly recognizable for their distinctive stamped elephant foot patterns, even more so the early pieces, well known for their bold, visually arresting drawings. Produced by the weavers of the Tekke tribes of Central Asia, Tekke rugs are highly sought-after for their high-quality wool and use of rich natural dyes, and are widely appreciated as among the finest weavings from the region. These pieces are truly timeless works of art, well suited to decorate a wide variety of spaces.
This fine Tekke carpet is a great example of its type with a light terracotta field, soft tan and ivory tones in the drawing, and a remarkably quality and durable wool.
It is in very good condition, still retaining all its original borders and its long kilim fringes at both ends - a rare feature for a rug dating to the late 19th century.
A handsome tribal piece, with a wonderful colour palette, which would make a welcome addition to any setting.

- Understated 1890s Beshir CarpetLocated in London, GBBeshir rugs are woven by the Beshir tribe of Turkmenistan in Central Asia. They are best known for their distinctive weaving style, in a region where most rugs produced by their neighbouring tribes can be recognised by their so-called elephant foot pattern and deep blues and reds. This 19th-century example features a pomegranate blossom motif, inspired by earlier weavings of the 18th Century, symbolising prosperity, longevity and fertility, with a muted aubergine grey field and a variety of earthy, vegetable-dyed colours in its design. Its weaving has a precision and clarity uncommon in carpets of its type - truly a carpet of one-of-a-kind craftsmanship and artistry. This Beshir carpet...Category
