Maximalist style meets sensual decadence in this hand knotted wool antique Chinese Art Deco rug. The elaborate floral details and saturated jewel-tone colors woven into this piece work together resulting in a delightful and captivating design. The beguiling composition features an open medallion patterned with a swirl of peonies, lotuses, chrysanthemums, plum blossoms, a butterfly and a pair of birds. Together, the ensemble of these flowers represents the four seasons and cycle of nature, while the butterfly symbolizes happiness, and the pair of birds represent fidelity and conjugal bliss. The same ensemble of flowers can be seen throughout the composition. Six small bundles of flowers surround the medallion. Blooms emanate from the corners along with birds perched on the plum blossoms’ branches. The two borders also repeat the four seasons motifs along with two butterflies. The sumptuous and regal jewel tone colors truly bring the intricate designs to life, creating a truly outstanding composition with undeniable beauty.
