Antique Chinese Baotau Rug, Circa 1900

About the Item

This rug was hand woven in China. A cery rare carpet known as Baotou, they come mostly in deep blue color with Abrash (natural discolorations that happen over time) and close to square in size. The "tarantula" midfield design, perhaps a Mongol talisman to protect against an attack by a tarantula: quite possibly, however it reads as a beautiful geometric motif. Aside from the abrash discoloration in one end about 13 inch wide, the carpet is in very good condition. Measures: 7'2" x 6'6".
