Antique Circa 1880 Hand-knotted Wool Khotan Rug
About the Item
This antique, circa 1880, Khotan rug has a golden-yellow field with a variety of scattered stylized flowers and floral motifs around a column of three roundels linked by an angular hooked plant motif, the central mole-brown roundel containing a tomato-red panel with central flowerhead issuing leafy tendrils, the smaller roundels above and below each with a light aubergine-purple centre with polychrome flowerheads, the outer tomato-red band of each with a linked floral vine, the mole-brown key-pattern spandrels, a triple striped border, the inner stripe with a linked key-pattern, the middle with spaced flowerheads, the outer with a dense polychrome cloud motif, plain outer stripe.
