Antique Turn-of-the-Century Handknotted Khotan Rug
About the Item
This antique, circa 1900, Khotan rug has a buff-brown field with a delicate fox-brown lozenge lattice around a ivory stepped medallion with palmettes at each side and end containing scattered flowerheads around a mole-brown stepped lozenge medallion with four linked ivory flowerheads, all within a broad mole-brown stepped band forming a lozenge containing scattered flowerheads, the sandy-yellow stepped spandrels with an angular flowering plant surrounded by floral motifs, in a sandy-yellow border of flowerheads between an inner angular floral vine and a linked lozenge stripe and an outer interlocking part lozenge stripe.
