About the Item

This one-of-a-kind handknotted carpet was made in India with love. With a multitude of pictorial motifs, this carpet reads like a stunning ancient tapestry. Delightful scenes of yogis in meditation or a Mughal King riding an elephant meet primal scenes of hunters on horseback and predators meeting their prey. Lotus and other florals play among the figures in lively pinks and stand out against the deep blue background. The low-pile rug is made from 100% Indian wool which is rich in natural strength. Our dyeing technique for wool gives a unique element to the rug: imbuing incredible depth of colour without fattening the yarns. The colour is further enhanced in the washing process adding unique character by preserving brightness and adding worn out moments for an antique feel. The pile has been shaved low for easy of maintenance rendering it hard-wearing and durable. The handknotted quality is 11/11 which amounts to approximately 120 knots per square inch. Measuring 10'11 x 14'01, this carpet would make a suitable centerpiece. Obtained from GOTS certified and eco-friendly raw colors and vegetable sources, the dyes in our rugs are long-lasting thanks to a state-of-the-art dying fixation process. The dyes are always AZO free. Thanks to our long-standing relationships, we can be in direct contact with the artisan communities, each of our rugs can be traced back all the way to the person who wove it.
