-- About the artwork on which this rug is based:
Mondrian was best known for this type of abstract painting in which he limited his palette to the primary colors and black, adding gray here as well. Thick, black vertical and horizontal lines delineate the outlines of the rectangles of color. The painting creates a harmony of contrasts depicting the balance and at the same time the tension of dynamic forces.
-- About Piet Mondrian:
“The more basic the color, the more inward, the more pure.” Piet Mondrian
Piet Mondrian was a Dutch artist who revolutionized the art world with his abstract works.
His development as an artist was a journey from traditional landscapes and still-life paintings to the geometric purity of neoplasticism.
Mondrian’s art embodies power, relevance, and value, not only in the era he lived in but also as a timeless essence that continues to inspire generations.
His paintings have a unique ability to evoke emotions and leave a lasting impression on the viewer.
Today, Mondrian’s art can be found in museums around the world and serves as a constant reminder of how art can break boundaries and make a lasting impact.
Now, it can be found in your home too, translated into a refined handmade rug from your favorite Mondrian painting.

(after) Piet Mondrian
Piet Mondrian (1872–1944) was a Dutch painter and theoretician, a pioneer of 20th-century abstract art. He transitioned from figurative painting to a minimalist, geometric style, focusing on primary colors (red, blue, yellow), black, white, gray, and horizontal and vertical lines. His art, rooted in nature, sought universal values and aesthetics. Mondrian was a key figure in the De Stijl movement and his work influenced major art styles like Color Field painting, Abstract Expressionism, and Minimalism, as well as design, architecture, and fashion. Design historian Stephen Bayley described Mondrian as a totem of Modernism.
