Handwoven in all-natural aloe, this custom rug sample is an exciting new addition to the “Natural” line of flatweaves in Rug & Kilim’s Scandinavian rug collection—a contemporary reimagining of Swedish minimalism and vintage rugs and textiles of Rollakan and Rya traditions.
On the Design:
This new flat weave reinvents vintage Scandinavian Kilim in ways that both honor the Swedish minimalist aesthetic and modernize its construction. Our use of undyed natural yarns, for example, lends a subtle striae with more of a sense of movement and depth—a subtle nod to Rollakan techniques in a modern fashion. This particular rug enjoys rich shades of beige-brown, gray and cream in geometric patterns, with a gentle variety in each hue attributed to the intricate weaving style. Admirers of the craft will further note the use of aloe as a natural fiber lends a more sustainable, eco-conscious element with green design in mind.
Our flatweave’s more durable, weighted body is also a hallmark of the collection, made for high-traffic and heavy-furniture spaces. This, alongside several elements detailed here, represent R&K Principal Jahanshah Nazmiyal’s hope to honor this mid-century modern aesthetic. His Scandinavian Collection is a contribution to that style, and a renaissance for its designs with more comfortable, current techniques.
