About the Item

This classic Boujad features vertical and horizontal chains of lozenges floating over an abrashed magenta field. Male bar and rod motifs are randomly placed throughout the composition, adding spontaneity to an otherwise rather structured pattern. Knotted in a palette of orange, apricot, sea green, salmon pink, charcoal, and ivory. 100% wool with a time-faded patina. An Arab urban center with both Arab and Arabized Berber tribes in the Haouz plains region east of Marrakech (between the Middle Atlas and the Atlantic Ocean) named after the town of Boujad, which has an important carpet souk. Carpets from this region have similarities to those from the Middle Atlas, utilizing Berber motifs and similar structures, but tend to take on a more individualistic creative approach. Motifs are often distorted, and vast colors reflect an urban influence. These carpets can vary from an abstract side of weaving art to more precise symmetrical messages. Boujad carpets were not made for bedding but rather for use on the floor. All of our inventory is hand-selected in Morocco. We curate the best possible selection of vintage Berber carpets available. Our entire collection of carpets and textiles is located in Brooklyn, New York. All of our pieces are professionally cleaned and restored prior to coming to market. We ship anywhere in the world within two weeks.
