Vintage Midcentury Moroccan Transitional Pink and Beige Wool Runner

About the Item

Originating from Morocco in 1950, this vintage mid-century Moroccan wool runner employs a unique distribution of color ways. Hand knotted in high quality wool, the all-over field design creates a distinguished visual gravity in the concentration of hot pink, brown, and aqua blue geometric lines leading into the one-sided braided fringes. This uniquely creates intrigue in the lower two thirds of the piece, employing a greater variety and more finely woven pattern of beige, peach, multi-tonal blue, red, and other colors highlighting the weaver’s attention to meticulous detail.

Hand knotted in high quality wool, the textural beige field design is dominated by meandering chains of lozen and zig-zagging symbols, which were iconic Moroccan symbols meant to represent the unity between a man and a woman. While the feminine lozenge symbols often dominate these fields in honor of the female weavers, the particular asymmetry of the male geometric to the female symbol...
