Vintage Midcentury Moroccan Transitional Red and Black Wool Rug

About the Item

Originating from Morocco in the 1950s, this vintage midcentury Moroccan wool rug symbolizes strength, protection, and femininity through the combination of bold red colourways and diamond-shaped lozenges. Hand knotted in high quality wool, the lozenges bare a distinct resemblance to the protective eye motif, complementing the meaningful red colourways and accented by bold black and vibrant turquoise blues. Additionally, unique to this piece are the Minimalist x symbols between the neatly woven geometric chains, often symbolizing men to compliment the lozenge’s representation of women.

Originating from Morocco in 1950, this vintage midcentury Moroccan wool rug features a transitional field design with a unique asymmetry to its cultural symbols. Hand knotted in high quality wool, the textural beige field design is dominated by meandering chains of lozen and zig-zagging symbols, which were iconic Moroccan symbols meant to represent the unity between a man and a woman. While the feminine lozenge symbols often dominate these fields in honor of the female weavers, the particular asymmetry of the male geometric to the female symbol...
