About the Item

A rare and unique Berber flat-weave called haik originating from the Mejjat tribe, located in the most southern part of the Moroccan Anti Atlas region. Woven in alternating shades of brown and neutral, it is distinguished by a sturdier handle than what we typically encounter in the blankets from this area.. A finely woven haik from theDistinguished for their blanket-like handle and for their unique iconography, where the weft directed patterns converge towards the center giving the visual impression of sand in the desert. This example is What is particularly noteworthy in this example is the ingenious use of the various tonalities of natural undyed wool, imparting a particular dynamics to the background of the composition of widely spaced white stripes.
