American Modernist Textured Mocha Brown Open Field Square Carpet by V'Soske

About the Item

Stanislav V'Soske (1899-1983) was originally trained as a painter at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art. In the mid 20's he co-founded with his brothers a carpet workshop in Grand Rapids (Michigan), at first focusing on hooked rugs, concentrating then on developing new techniques for hand-tufting. He was one of the first to introduce designs as a function of texture, as he originated hand-carving in rugs and developed new ways of varying the surface of carpeting in tufted, incised and modelled patterns exactly like on the rug offered here, where the scalloped border is obtained by carefully hand-clipping the open field as well as the contours of the wave border. He won numerous awards, and has obtained prestigious commissions such as the Green Room in the White House. His rugs and tapestries have been exhibited in many galleries and museums, including the Museum of Modern Art In New York, which commissioned some of his work for its permanent collection.

Vintage Edward Fields Carpet after a Design by Marion Dorn
By Edward Fields
Located in Milan, IT
Edward Fields has been creating bespoke luxury floor coverings in New York since 1930. His carpets are known for their unparalleled design, quality and craftsmanship. Among it's many prestigious commissions there is a carpet installed in the Diplomatic Reception Room in the White House, under specifications of First Lady's Jacqueline Kennedy's interior designer. Marion V. Dorn (1899-1964) was originally trained as a painter and this led her to develop her skills as a textile designer. During her formative years she worked in Paris and New York, and it was at the 1925 'Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes' in Paris that she first encountered the modernist rug designs of Ivan da Silva Bruhns and Maurice Dufrene. By 1930 she began her association with the Wilton Royal Carpet...
