About the Item
Inspired by the historic making technique of colonial American braided rugs, the Pool rug series dramatically updates the silhouette while still paying homage to tradition.
Careful attention to detail creates special textural changes throughout the piece, while the overall composition breaks with the rectangular shape of a standard rug.
Handmade in New England by a mill with 30 years of manufacturing experience, each rug is braided and sewn to order using natural undyed Canadian wool.
Custom sizes, colors and materials are possible. Colors vary slightly. Rug pad recommended.

Grain
Grain is a design practice dedicated to social and environmental responsibility. Our work unites current manufacturing technologies and age-old craft techniques. Goods are produced in small batch runs at our island studio or through special collaborations with expert artisans in the US and abroad. As a full service design consultancy and studio, we offer expertise in research, strategy and design for companies interested in uniting sustainability and business through design. In 2008, we began to design and produce a line of in-house products for wholesale and retail markets that are created as sustainably as possible in the Pacific Northwest or in collaboration with artisan communities in Guatemala. About the Partners: James and Chelsea Minola met during a Wintersession course in Guatemala while studying at the Rhode Island School of Design and quickly learned that they had quite a bit of personal history in common: Both grew up in Southern California and had family living on an island in the Puget Sound. The pair also shared an ambition to make a positive impact with their design educations by dedicating their practice to social and environmental responsibility.
Custom shapes and sizes are possible. We work with natural un-dyed wool for these rugs, but we also have access to wool/poly blends and/or Sunbrella yarns in a number of colors. Rugs made from Sunbrella can be used indoors and outdoors. Custom dimensions and the use of Sunbrella will add to pricing. We can produce about one rug a week. Please keep that in mind when placing multiple orders.
