19th Century Oversize Persian Kerman Lavar in Ivory, Red, Pink, Blue, Green
About the Item
A beautiful oversized Persian Kerman Lavar from the 4th quarter of the 1800s. The Kerman Lavar rug has a central medallion in a very detailed and intricate manner. The primary color in the field is antique cream with accents of red, turquoise, pink, blue, yellow, and green throughout. The corner spandrels are in red with floral designs in brown, black, and white. Truly a masterpiece of Persian 19th-century weaving.
The village of Kerman is located at the edge of the great desert in SE Persia and was on the ancient silk road. It is known for some of the most beautiful and colorful rugs that were woven in Persia. The weavers used the color and flower designs in rugs to bring some color and nature’s beauty to the dry desert environment that they lived in.
