Beautiful vintage Persian Kerman Lavar area rug in a floral pattern from the late 1800s. The rug has a cream or pale yellow field and border color with curvilinear designs in red, black, and brown colors throughout. The village Lavar is near the city of Kerman on the edge of the great desert in South East Persia. The Kerman Lavar carpets are world-renowned for their beauty in design and colors used which this carpet well represents. The carpet still retains its beauty after over 120 years of use. The village of Kerman is located at the edge of the great desert in SE Persia and was on the ancient silk road. It is known for some of the most beautiful and colorful rugs that were woven in Persia. The weavers used the color and flower designs in rugs to bring some color and nature’s beauty to the dry desert environment that they lived in. A beautiful Persian Malayer gallery or library rug from the 4th quarter of the 1800s in an all-over design with an abrash navy blue field color. The rug has a wonderfully large format geometric pattern on an abrash navy blue color background. The field is framed with a colorful border set in red color with geometric designs in blue, pink, pale yellow, green, red, and brown connected via straight lines. The corner spandrels are also in a rust-red color with a Herati design in baby blue, pink, green, and red. Because of its special size and design, it would be a great addition as a library rug or as a gallery/ corridor rug.
