19th Century Persian Kerman Lavar Pictorial “Tree of Life” Rug in Camel, Red
About the Item
An exquisite 19th-century Persian Kerman Lavar pictorial rug, masterfully handwoven in the late 1800s, featuring the symbolic "Tree of Life" motif. This antique piece showcases a serene camel or pale tan field anchored by a striking central magenta cypress tree, flanked by vibrantly rendered parrots and flowering urns, all sheltered beneath a graceful architectural arch. Two elegant peacocks stand symmetrically at the tree's base, enhancing the visual harmony.
Delicately detailed spandrels in soft blush red crown the upper field, while the composition is framed by three refined borders in rich camel and crimson tones, adorned with a continuous floral meander. The reverse includes a display band, allowing this rare textile to be hung as an art tapestry. Originating from the village of Lavar near Kerman in southeastern Persia, this rug exemplifies the region’s legendary craftsmanship, celebrated for its fine detail, sophisticated palettes, and lyrical composition—an exceptional addition to any curated interior or collector’s ensemble.

19th Century Persian Kerman Lavar Runner
Located in Barrington, IL
This exquisite Lavar Kerman runner from the late 1800s is a true rarity—both in format and artistry. Lavar Kerman rugs, renowned for their refined floral designs and exceptional craftsmanship, are seldom found in runner form, making this piece exceptionally desirable.
The allover floral pattern is rendered in a sophisticated palette of French blue, soft pink, ivory, and rich red, gracefully woven into a field of timeless elegance. Perhaps the most unique feature is the exquisite border: a flowing arrangement of vibrant red flower bouquets set against an unusually rare green background—creating a stunning visual contrast and a harmonious frame for the composition.
Woven in southern Persia in the historic city of Kerman—a major cultural and artistic center along the ancient Silk Road—this runner is not only a work of textile mastery but also a piece of living history. Its delicacy, balance, and palette reflect the artistic spirit of a region long celebrated for its contribution to Persian rug weaving.
