About the Item

Antique Persian Shiraz Qashqai rug, hand-knotted by the pastoral nomadic Qashqai people in the 19th century made with wool on wool foundation and natural vegetable dyes. The rug has an energetic, lively design, woven with precision and is packed with symbolic expression down to the smallest detail, demonstrating Qashqai people's strong attachment to nature. It features a prominent stepped lozenge filled with dainty wheel of life and fertility motifs that surround a small central medallion as if in strings of necklaces radiating across the large lozenge field in madder red. Size: 4.6 x 6.6 ft. The remaining part of the field, outside the lozenge, in beautiful indigo blue, also features a profusion of symbols, including ram's horns, wheels of life and animal figures, all of which allude to significant elements of the physical and spiritual landscape of the Qashqai people. The outer border is spectacular in its own way, with its exceptionally well-drawn stylized floral boughs, adding to the expression of joy and strength drawn from the harmony and beauty in nature. The rug has beautiful, strong, saturated vegetable dyes, including madder red and indigo blue, apart from the natural un-dyed brown and cream, which makes it more rare and distinctive and attests to the weaving strength and high standards of the Qashqai people. It is very finely made, has a supple weave and a soft, medium pile. A great accompaniment to and a statement piece for your interiors with its old world charm, lively design and refined aesthetic.
