Antique 1890s Persian Amoghli Rug, 5' x 8'

About the Item

This Persian carpet was created by the master weaver and artist Amoghli, circa 1890. Amoghli commissioned talented weavers throughout the province of Khorasan to create his designs using his signature wool and dyes. The wool used to create the pile of this carpet comes exclusively from the neck of the sheep, where there is the highest concentration of lanolin. This natural oil gives the wool a silk-like texture and shine. It also amplifies the effect of the natural yet lustrous oranges, purples, golds, reds, and blues that make this carpet so unique. The design is highly intricate and the level of detail throughout the medallion and field is extraordinary. This carpet was created using a cotton warp, cotton weft, hand-knotted wool pile, and natural vegetable dyes. The size is 4'9" x 7'9", and it is in excellent antique condition. Orley Shabahang takes pride in selecting and curating the finest vintage and antique carpets, ensuring that the preservation of this ancient art form will endure for generations to come.
