About the Item

This Persian Tehran carpet circa 1900 features a Tree of Life design and consists of a cotton warp and thread, a hand-knotted pile of handspun wool, and natural vegetable dyes. It is an exceptionally fine and detailed piece, in which the artist has utilized every inch of space to illustrate the love of Spring in the Garden of Eden. Among the flowers and blossoms are peacocks, ducks, koi, cypress trees and boteh motifs. Its rich red field balances the light blues, creams and pinks of the design. Balanced majestically, the tree central to the design provides a solid foundation for the entire piece. The size is exactly 4'2" x 6', and it is in good antique condition showing signs of age consistent with its age.
