Antique 1910s Persian Lavar Rug, 6' x 12'

About the Item

This Persian Lavar carpet created circa 1910 consists of a pure wool hand-knotted pile with cotton warp and threads and natural vegetable dyes. The work of master weaver Sakhaie, as noted by the carpet's signature, what is particularly impressive about this piece is its use of the seven-color combination technique. That is, there are seven shades of each color shown, as the beiges move to brown, the light blues to navy blue, the oranges to gold and so on. It is is very challenging for a weaver to execute this technique successfully and a testament to her skill as an artist. This coloration allows the carpet to be elaborate while still retaining a soft and balanced feel. Shown within the design are motifs of peacock feathers, butterflies, birds, vases and medallions. This carpet is in excellent antique condition, and the size is 5'11" x 11'10". Orley Shabahang takes pride in selecting and curating the finest vintage and antique carpets, ensuring that the preservation of this ancient art form will endure for generations to come.
