Antique Kerman Carpet Woven By - Master Aboul Ghasem Kermani
About the Item
Oriental rug production exploded in Persia in the late 19th century to early 20th century and the city of Kerman was one of the leaders in revivalist weaving. There were many talented master weavers associated with this period but Aboul Ghasen Kermani ranks among the most important. His is considered a “master among the masters”. His designs typically influenced from other parts of Persia include botehs ,medallions of roses, dense floral borders and extravagant pictorial scenes. Kermani Kerman’s use luxurious wool and silk are finely woven with Persian knots . The museum in Tehran is home to many of the most celebrated Kermani’s. Signature pieces are considered to be the most collectible rugs in the world.
Since the seventeenth century, Kerman has been a major center for the production of high-quality carpets. The so-called Vase Carpets of the Safavid period are among the greatest masterpieces of Persian weaving. When Persian rug production moved into high gear in the later nineteenth century, Kerman once again emerged as a producer of the finest carpets in the best Persian tradition. Kerman carpets of this period, particularly the Lavar type, are known for the fineness of their weave and for their elegantly drawn designs of classical derivation, both in allover and central medallion formats. The palette of Kerman rugs are also extremely varied. It ranges from example which emphasize ivory, blue, and magenta tones to those with a more golden, saffron cast.
