About the Item

78995 Antique Persian Hussainabad Hamadan Rug, 02'08 x 04'03. This captivating hand-knotted wool antique Persian Hussainabad Hamadan rug is a remarkable blend of history and craftsmanship, bringing a sense of cultural richness and authenticity to any space. Originating from the Hamadan region of Iran, specifically the village of Hussainabad, this small Persian rug embodies the artistic heritage of the area, known for its enduring quality and intricate patterns. Handwoven by master artisans, each knot tells a story, reflecting centuries-old weaving techniques passed down through generations. The Hamadan rug's central field is dominated by a vibrant red, a color deeply symbolic of vitality and life in Persian culture. The rich red backdrop showcases a symphony of intricate floral designs that are artfully arranged into a tree of life pattern. The design is accentuated by dark blue and black foliage, which further enhances the contrast against the red field. These motifs evoke themes of nature, growth, and prosperity, which are key elements in traditional Persian art and rug-making. Framing the field is a beautifully crafted rosette meander border that is flanked with an inner and outer carnation meander guard border. This framing not only enhances the visual depth of the Persian rug but also creates a perfect balance between the elaborate central motifs and the structured edges. The rosette meander border, with its alternating floral and botanical elements, offers a harmonious transition from the densely packed central design to the outer edges, encapsulating the timeless beauty of Persian rug design. This Hussainabad Hamadan rug is not only a decorative piece but a historical artifact that brings a warm, sophisticated charm to any interior. Its durability, created from high-quality wool, ensures that it remains a treasured heirloom for years to come. Perfect for both modern and traditional settings, this rug exudes a sense of understated luxury, making it a fitting addition to homes that appreciate heritage and craftsmanship. Abrash. Antique Persian Sarouk Area Rug
Located in New York, NY
Sarouk is a name of a village situated about 25 miles north of Arak (Sultanabad). This region became one of the most active regions of carpet weaving in the late 19th century through the early 20th century. The city's most famous designer was named Farahan. To be able to compete with Kashan in rug commerce, Farahan designed rugs with center medallion motives. Today, these carpets are referred to as Antique 19th century Farahan Sarouks. In the 1920s and 1930s a well-known rug dealer in New York thought that Americans would buy rose-field carpets with blue borders and detached floral motives. During that period, a vast number of Sarouks with rose-fields and all over floral patterns were woven and exported to the American market. However, the natural dyed rose color did not stand up to the alkaline bath to which new rugs in Arak were subjected in the finishing process. The rose color faded radically. But instead of changing the finishing process or changing the composition of the dyes to stand up to alkali, New York merchants "solved" the problem by arming their staffs with synthetic dyes and little paint brushes with which they painted back in the rose-color in the entire fields of thousands and thousands of rugs and carpets over a period of 20 years. Today, Antique Sarouk rugs and carpets...
