Antique Persian Kerman Lavar Carpet. 10 ft x 14 ft 5 in

About the Item

Antique Persian Kerman Lavar rug, country of origin: Persia, date circa late 19th century. Size: 10 ft x 14 ft 5 in (3.05 m x 4.39 m) Kerman has a history of weaving fine rugs that goes back nearly 400 years. Its artisans were tasked with creating the masterpieces that graced the palaces and public spaces of the rulers of the Safavid dynasty. These carpets are known for their delicate designs and soft colors. They are of a fine weave, which allows for the creation of intricate details. It also gives them a soft handle that is more like a heavy fabric than a carpet. This breathtaking masterpiece was created in the late 19th century using carpet weaving traditions that date back several centuries and that reflect time-honored traditions. This antique carpet was created with the precision that is typically associated with the established weaving centers of Persia. It was more than likely a commissioned piece, as it has an inscription woven into the border. This inscription may be the signature of the artist. It might also be the name of the person or family who commissioned the piece. It could also be a saying from the Quran. The symmetry of the piece gives it a formal quality that would make it an excellent addition to a traditional room design. Now, designers are using Kerman rugs in many contemporary and historic rooms. This one has a classic feel that will add a traditional touch and classic appeal. In the early 19th century, Kerman was destroyed as a result of war. It was burned to the ground, and the weavers fled to the nearby town of Laver and started their looms once again. Carpets produced in Lavar have many of the qualities of fine Kerman rugs, and many new, masterful designs arose from the combination of these two weaving traditions. Kerman has a history of weaving fine rugs that goes back nearly 400 years.
