Antique Persian Kerman Pictorial Rug, Dervish under Willow Tree Tapestry

About the Item

74336 Antique Persian Kerman Pictorial Rug, Dervish under Willow Tree Tapestry. Drawing inspiration from Nur Ali Shah, this antique Persian Kirman rug displays an expressive pictorial rug of a Dervish under a willow tree. In the center and surrounded by flowers, a charismatic dervish man tranquilly sits on leopard skin with his Kashkul (Kashkool) also known as a ‘Begging Bowl’ among a garden scene. This meticulously detailed composition incorporates beautifully rendered animals, trees and blossoms with precisely constructed dervish cartouches of Mostaq Ali Shah, adding a deeper perspective to this idyllic scene. In the center, animated angels or cherubs, elegant ducks and graceful birds add a lifelike quality to the composition while creating a foundation for an enchanting and heavenly story. The tiniest aspects are carefully outlined in contrasting colors while the subtler variations of color produce a captivating visual effect. This extraordinary darvish pictorial rug is a magnificent example of the Persian creative dedication and culture needed to produce such methodically composed work of art. With its commitment to tradition and refinement, this Persian Pictorial wall hanging can enliven nearly any opulent period-interior with color and vitality. Well-suited for a variety of styles: Islamic, Arabian, Old World, Traditional, French, Rococo, Louis XIV, Louis XI, Louis XV, Rococo, Italian, Regal, Aubusson, Baroque, Renaissance, European, and Savonnerie inspired interiors with Gobelins or Beauvais style. Whether in a formal setting with elaborate furnishings or in an Ottoman style interior, this pictorial tapestry will bring vibrant life where it is displayed. Dervish (Darvish) is a Persian name referencing the people living and practicing the path of their God, Allah. According to Wikipedia, a dervish is someone treading a Sufi Muslim ascetic path. They are also known as "Tariqah" and recognized for their austerity and their vow to extreme poverty. The dervish believe in relinquishing one's earthly ties to reach a state of tranquility, love and harmony. In the majority of Sufi orders, a dervish is known to practice dhikr through physical exertions or religious practices to attain the ecstatic trance to reach Allah. Their most common practice is Sema which is associated with Rumi. Measures: 04'08" x 06'08".
