About the Item

Stunning Antique Malayer - Mahi Style Persian Runner 3' 4" x 10' Beautiful mid 20th century runner handwoven in the renown area of Malayer. Located in the western are of Iran, just a little to the north before you reach Azerbaijan, resides the city of Malayer. This ancient city is closely located to the Hamadan area. These ancient areas share a similar weaving technique and a large variety of designs. Pieces from this area are sturdy and attractive, making these rugs highly sought after. Comprised of Persian wool expertly hand-knotted on a thick cotton foundation, these runners are as lasting as they are attractive. These pieces are perfect for protecting your floors while elevating your space. The Mahi design, or sometimes referred to as Herati design, is an ancient style that is traced back to the nomadic Kashkuli tribe of the Qashqais. This repeating design is meant to resemble fish scales and may even feature small fish motifs, hence the name Mahi- the Persian word for fish. This beloved design is utilized by weavers around the country and the rest of the world. This floral geometric take is more commonly seen in the Malayer and Hamadan areas. It is beautifully accented by the bold color scheme utilized in this example. Rich rusty reds and deep blues and navys, with just a touch of cream, are incorporated perfectly to show off the complexity of its design while remaining balanced. This eye-catching piece works well with any decor and any floor, and is guaranteed to transform any space for the better. This piece is beautifully aged for being around 80 years old. Due to its skillful construction this piece will easily last another 80 years. The wear is even and a bit low, which is to be expected at this age, however that does not take away from this rugs presence and charm. This piece, like the rest of our collection, was hand-picked by Persian Rug expert and Shiraz native, Jason Dadras. Each piece was acquired through the relationships he forged around the world. Our rugs are ethically sourced and have been legally imported.
