Antique Persian red and blue carpet, Feraghan – Iran – 305 x 155

About the Item

Gorgeous decorative, and exclusive antique Persian rug, made in the 19th century using a traditional process that no longer exists today. This is a highly valued piece today. It is handmade with natural and durable materials, using wool over cotton. The way it is knotted and the diversity of its stylistic motifs, with floral and vegetal lacework and various geometric shapes, make this piece a true work of art. As usual, it features a central medallion and a rich border framing the floral field. The decorations on the Feraghan carpet, from an Iranian region, are strongly influenced by the Herati motif, which is present in the central medallion. The border, for its part, is made up of a series of narrow bands also loaded with infinite ornaments. These carpets are very sober and were highly appreciated in the English mansions of the Victorian era. Technical data Style: Feraghan style, Material: Wool, cotton.
