Antique Persian Serapi Rug circa 1900
About the Item
The all -important ivory field much sought after by collectors, this carpet was handmade in Serapi area by Heriz town. The colors within the details of this majestic Serapi are still clear and fresh despite being woven in turn of the century. The weavers in Heriz/Serapi area consistently high-quality, sophisticated designs the drawing of this piece suggests a certain naivety on the part of the weaver. This could be due to the fact that this carpet was made for personal use and not supervised to be perfect for the market.
Wool and dyes used to make this carpet are of high quality and the knots are rather fine for Heriz carpets. There are restorations performed throughout this Serapi but the condition is very good for its age and the carpet will remain in a good state of preservation for many years to come.
