Antique Persian Meshad botanic, beige, brown and black handwoven wool rug
Size: 9'8" × 16'0" (294 × 487 cm)
Antique Persian rugs enjoy unfaltering popularity and looking at this stunning carpet, we can easily see why. Woven circa 1920 by a skilled artisan, it displays elements characteristic for goods woven in the city of Meshad, located in northeastern Iran. A great care that was put into the smallest of details suggest that it might have been a gift for someone, or maybe it is just a proof of the artist’s great talent. Contrary to many other types of Persian rugs, this one lacks a visible central medallion, which was instead traded for an all-over pattern. The main field is covered with tiny flowers connected with each other in the likeness of a meadow. The frame surrounding it shares the motif, but displays it in a different fashion, it is composed of regular posies instead of a sea of flowers. Rug’s tasteful color palette includes warm earthy tones of brown and beige with bits of black, which provides a perfect background for the elaborate pattern.
