Early 20th Century Veramin Carpet, Central Persia

About the Item

This early 20th-century fine Veramin has a remarkable tight weave which explains the clarity of its crisp drawing. The light sky blue field complements the generous large-scale drawing, framed by a wide terracotta border. There is a subtle colour variation adding great depth and richness to the monochrome drawing. The charming pomegranate design is derived from early Azerbaijan rugs of the 18th century and symbolizes prosperity, fertility and longevity. Antique Veramin carpets of Central Persia are recognised as exceptional workshop weavings for their quality crisp drawings and variety of vegetable-dyed colours. They are widely appreciated for their creative drawings in comparison to rugs from neighbouring regions. This attractive Veramin carpet is in very good to excellent condition for everyday use. It has still retained its original borders and short fringes on both sides. A stylish example, rare in its large format with charm and character to blend in a wide variety of settings.

  • Fine Early 20th Century Tibetan Carpet
    Located in London, GB
A unique and elegant Tibetan carpet in a rare room-size format - likely commissioned at the time for a member of the nobility, as most Tibetan pieces of the period were woven in a small rug format. The blue field provides a great contrast to the striking design, with each drawing in the central field is creatively repeated in various colour compositions, is framed by a simple red border. The charming array of hues in the palette are all vegetable-dyed. Rug weaving in Tibet stretches back hundreds if not thousands of years, though experienced a real renaissance in the early 20th Century, brought by the greater access to rich dyes, and a greater diversity in these carpets designs, combining traditional Tibetan motifs with elements borrowed from Chinese weavings...
