Exceptional 20th Century Veramin Carpet
About the Item
Antique Veramin carpets are widely recognized as among the most exceptional Persian workshop weavings, best known for their remarkable quality, fine crisp drawings and wide variety of rich vegetable-dyed colours. Early Veramin pieces would have been woven by the Shahsavan tribe, who settled in the city of Veramin after migrating from Northwest Persia, bringing with them the characteristic designs that set these carpets apart from those from the neighboring regions.
This fine early 20th Century example features a soft, overlayed with a geometric lattice pattern of pomegranate blossoms, symbolising prosperity, fertility and longevity, originally drawn from 18th Century rugs from Azerbaijan. The drawing – which, owing to the skill of its artist, has a remarkably crisp quality – is in tones sage green and denim blue, framed by a wide border; a restrained palette and spacious composition which lends this piece a feeling of relaxed elegance, well suited to its large format.
With a good pile throughout, and still retaining its original fringes at both ends and selvedges on both sides, this carpet is in very good to excellent condition; a timeless work of art, to add character to any setting.

The charming pomegranate design is derived from early Azerbaijan rugs of the 18th century and symbolizes prosperity, fertility and longevity. Antique Veramin...Category

- Fine Early 20th Century Tibetan CarpetLocated in London, GBA unique and elegant Tibetan carpet in a rare room-size format - likely commissioned at the time for a member of the nobility, as most Tibetan pieces of the period were woven in a small rug format. The blue field provides a great contrast to the striking design, with each drawing in the central field is creatively repeated in various colour compositions, is framed by a simple red border. The charming array of hues in the palette are all vegetable-dyed. Rug weaving in Tibet stretches back hundreds if not thousands of years, though experienced a real renaissance in the early 20th Century, brought by the greater access to rich dyes, and a greater diversity in these carpets designs, combining traditional Tibetan motifs with elements borrowed from Chinese weavings...Category
