About the Item

19th Century Persian Malayer Pictorial Carpet ( 12'4" x 15'10" - 375 x 483 ) Around a classic Azerbaijan medallion, eight castles are lifted by horned Djins (evil mythological creatures), with half-medallions, palmettes and vine segments fill the ivory ground. These Djinn / castle motives also appear on Sultanabad carpets from slightly to the east. The very narrow red turtle palmette border is almost an afterthought in this circa 1900 west Persian Malayer carpet.
