Hand-woven Wool Red Late 19th Century Fereghan Rug from West Persia

About the Item

This traditional handwoven Persian Fereghan rug has an extremely fine brick-red field of sparse polychrome floral motifs enclosing a deep indigo and ivory double clasped lozenge medallion, containing a profusion of serrated arabesque ivory-pistachio fronds issuing floral motifs, and broad ivory spandrels issued by fox-brown angled palmettes, in a deep indigo border of polychrome palmettes radiating ivory and rust floral garlands, between triple borders of polychrome geometric stipes, floral vine stripes, and skittle-pattern stripes. Mint condition. About Persian Fereghan Rugs Persian Fereghan rugs, originating from the Fereghan district in central Iran, are renowned for their fine craftsmanship and intricate designs, often featuring small-scale floral patterns, repeating motifs, and the iconic "Herati" (fish) design. Woven with high-quality wool, these 19th-century rugs have a subtle yet vibrant color palette, including soft reds, blues, greens, and ivory, achieved through natural dyes. The harmonious balance of color and design makes Fereghan rugs highly desirable among collectors and interior designers, celebrated for their elegance, durability, and connection to traditional Persian artistry.
