About the Item
A richly colored Persian hand-knotted wool carpet, dating to the mid-20th century, featuring a saturated madder red field with an ornate indigo border. The design is inspired by classical Ziegler Sultanabad and Heriz patterns, with a symmetrical allover arrangement of stylized palmettes, rosettes, lotus blossoms, and angular vine scrolls. A deeply traditional palette of red, navy, camel, sage, and ivory lends warmth and structure to the composition.
This generously scaled rug (nearly 10' x 14') was crafted using hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation, with a medium knot density that balances durability and refinement. The rectilinear drawing and bold floral motifs make it an ideal foundation for both classic and transitional interiors.
Origin:
Iran (formerly Persia), mid-20th century.
This finely hand-knotted carpet was woven in northwest Iran, in a region long celebrated for producing some of the finest traditional Persian rugs. Drawing inspiration from classical Sultanabad and Heriz patterns, it reflects the enduring legacy of Persian craftsmanship tailored for the international design market of the 1950s–1970s.
