Large Sized Rug in Style of Corcoran’s Clark Sickle-Leaf Carpet Design
About the Item
This beautiful rug comes from rural Afghanistan, where it was hand knotted by tribal weavers.
All the pile material is hand spun wool which was dyed with vegetable and mineral pigments.
It is of excellent quality with a fine luster and vibrant organic colors.
The design originates in ancient Persia. The style of this rug is known as sickle-leaf motif and it is typical for antique rugs of the Safavid dynastic age in the late 16th Century. A rug in this design is currently the most expensive rug of all times, it sold at Sotheby`s for almost 34 Mio USD and is known as the Corcoran’s Clark Sickle-Leaf Carpet.
The auction in 2013 brough back the interest in these antique and wonderful forgotten designs.
We are producing these rugs in cooperation with rural cooperatives in Afghanistan.
All our rugs are Label STEP Fair trade certified. Measures: 9 x 12 ft.
