This modern carpet, with an architectural design in blue on a cream background, utilizes handspun wool and vegetable dyes. This pure wool area rug, created by the artisans of Orley Shabahang, is approximately 8' x 10', a versatile size perfect for most living and dining areas. From the architectural series of the signature collection created by Orley Shabahang, this design, "Excelsior," brings a stateliness to any room with its design, while remaining luxurious through the process utilized in its creation. Like all Orley Shabahang carpets, every step of the creation of this one of a kind piece of functional art utilizes totally organic techniques, executed entirely by hand. The exquisite raw materials, pure wool from Persian Fat-Tailed Sheep in this particular carpet, provide the basis for the craftsmanship, with exemplary softness and natural stain-resistant properties. Pure wool is handspun, rather than using cranks or machines, because the wool maintains durability and softness while also taking on a striking natural striation of colors when dyed. The dyeing process is performed by hand using only organic vegetable dyes that produce vibrant yet subtle tones. Dyed wool and finished carpets are washed in the river and baked in the sun to set the patina, and carpets are hand-knotted directly in the homes of the weavers.
