Sub-Geometric Tribal Design Antique Persian Kurdish Runner in Multicolors

About the Item

Gray background and soft red-colored Persian Kurdish antique runner in Tribal design with geometric motifs, rug 19-0105, country of origin / type: Iran / Kurdish, circa 1900. This antique Kurdish tribal rug was woven by Kurdish weavers in western Persia. Often they used this repeating design in the border, woven along in varying colored panels. The emphasis with these rugs is on their colors, and those in this early piece are very vivid and interesting. The dyes are all natural and there is lovely variation, resulting in a colorful piece with great character. Measures: 3'8 x 13'3.

It could have been either the face of a saddlebag or the side panels for a mafrash (large bag). It has kilim weaving and the soumak woven designs add to the decoration of the bag.
