About the Item

Vintage 70's Persian Heriz Runner 2' 6" x 7' Whimsical runner handwoven in the Azerbaijan area over 50 years ago. This is a Shiravian Heriz, which is a sub tribe of Heriz known for rich colors and intricate floral designs. Shiravian Heriz's are beloved by collectors for their unique and sturdy rugs. Heriz rugs are known for their durability and signature Serapi design. This design is so beloved that cultures from across the world have replicated it, in fact the company Karastan established themselves replicating this design. It is easily one of the most recognizable rug designs in the world. This piece features a 100% Persian wool pile woven onto a sturdy cotton foundation. The weaving style of this tribe produces some of the heaviest and strongest rugs in the world, perhaps only second to Bidjar rugs, which are known as the iron rugs of Persia. It's due to its high quality weave and materials that allow these pieces to last for generations and generations. This rug has a unique design for Heriz runners. Generally Heriz runners feature a repeating, geometric medallion design. The Shiravian approach to this design is less geometric featuring round medallions. They framed in those medallions with a style more reminiscent of the full size Serapi rug design. Another interesting aspect to this rug is the joyful animal motifs incorporated in the field of this runner, this truly is a unique piece that can't help but put a smile on your face. The colors in this piece pair well with any floor and its tribal design allows makes it work with any decor. This piece is in great condition, its pile is soft and full with littles signs of wear. In its original condition, there has not been any major restoration or repairs done. It lays perfectly flat, buy its shape has been slightly warped possibly due to an error when it was cleaned many years ago. Even so, this is still an attractive piece that will easily last another 50 plus years. This piece, like the rest of our collection, was hand-picked by Persian Rug expert and Shiraz native, Jason Dadras. Each piece was acquired through the relationships he forged around the world. Our rugs are ethically sourced and have been legally imported.
