Vintage Persian Tabriz in Allover Pattern in Ivory, Green, Navy, Rust, Blue

This antique Tabriz rug is following the design of the Caucasian Kuba and Shirvan rugs from the 19th century in the "Afshan" design (stylized dragon and blossom). The rug has a geometric all-over design similar to Caucasian Shirvan rugs which are generally in a smaller 4×6 size. What makes this truly one-of-kind is that the design and pattern of those small rugs are implemented in a larger room size with the same details in the color palate. The use of geometric forms and bright colors throughout makes a truly wonderful design. This rug is part of the identical pair (1260 and 1261) that was most likely commissioned by a top rug weaver in the city of Tabriz in NW Persia and custom-designed and made in the 2nd quarter of the 20th century as a wedding gift. A vintage room size Persian Tabriz in a rare “Afshan” allover pattern set in a navy blue field with a red border circa the 2nd quarter of the 1900s. The design of this Tabriz rug is following the design of the Caucasian Kuba and Shirvan rugs from the 19th century in the "Afshan" pattern (stylized dragon and blossom). The beautiful and colorful Mahal Sultanabad room-size rug from the early 1900a has an all-over large format pattern in auburn red, navy blue, pink, chartreuse green, and cream colors. The main field's dark auburn color is a very pleasing and ideal background color in any design. The border has a very dark blue that brings harmony to the design. The chartreuse green color brings the design of the famous Ziegler rugs from the mid-1800s from this region. The Ziegler Mahal Sultanabad carpets woven in Persia from the mid-1800s have become world-renowned and are very desirable because of their color scheme and open designs.
