Vintage Square-Size Persian Sofreh Kilim in Brown, Navy, Terracotta, Tan
About the Item
This rare and highly collectible early 20th-century Persian Tribal Sofreh Kilim is a superb example of traditional Qashqai craftsmanship from Southwest Persia. Handwoven using handspun wool and natural organic dyes, this desirable square-format kilim showcases a beautifully aged palette of brown, navy, pink, and pale yellow.
Originally woven for tribal use rather than commercial sale, Sofreh kilims were used during meals to display serving dishes, resulting in minimal wear and exceptional preservation. The flatweave construction and fine materials reflect the skill and artistry of the Qashqai weavers, offering a distinctive piece of functional tribal art. Vintage Square-Size Persian Tribal Baluch Sofreh Kilim in Brown, Dark Red, Ivory
Located in Barrington, IL
This exceptionally rare early 20th-century Persian Baluch Tribal Sofreh Kilim is a highly collectible piece of authentic tribal artistry. Handwoven by the Baluch tribes of Southeast Persia, this desirable square-format kilim was traditionally crafted for personal, ceremonial use rather than for trade, making surviving examples particularly scarce.
The kilim features a deep dark brown (chocolate) field accented by a geometric dark red border and detailed with intricate soumak weaving in alternating ivory and red. Made from natural organic dyes and fine handspun wool, the artistry and craftsmanship reflect the Baluch people's deep weaving heritage. Traditionally used at mealtimes to serve food, this kilim was carefully preserved, maintaining its superb condition over time. A beautiful and functional piece of tribal weaving, this Sofreh is an extraordinary find for collectors, designers, and enthusiasts of authentic antique textiles.
