About the Item

A vintage hand-knotted "Tulu" (Turkish word for thick, soft-piled rugs) rug from Central Turkey, traditionally woven in two panels and made of hand-spun sheep's wool. The rug features a tangram-shaped, eye-catching design of diagonal squares within rectangles in a palette of rich and bright colors such as crimson red, wine red, grass green, forest green, cerulean blue, cream, gray and black. It has selvedges at one end as it was customary this way. Charming small rugs of this kind with modern and quirky designs and lustrous wool pile were made for daily use by villagers in Konya region of Central Anatolia until the late 1960s. Their designs and bold color schemes are ideal for contemporary interiors. They are also considered collectible as each one is one-of-a-kind and represents a diminishing form of textile and tribal art. Measures: 4 x 4.3 ft.
