About the Item
A highly decorative vintage Kayseri rug made in the 1970s, from the town of Kayseri in Central Turkey, that had long been a famous centre of rug-making. This finely hand-knotted rug features all the classical elements of its kind: Extreme attention to detail, intricate floral decoration and a color palette of glowing hues. The design includes an elaborate curvilinear medallion in deep madder red and sand beige accentuated with celadon green and golden sand hues. The medallion is flanked at the top and bottom by large botanical motifs that are evocative of pendant oil lamps. The sand beige field is entirely covered with very finely detailed, dainty scrolling blossoms and curving leaves mostly in soft pastel tones of salmon pink. The two-layered corner pieces in contrasting colors of celadon green and deep madder red are richly decorated and their bold, curvilinear edges bring a sense of gentle drama to the design. The inner and outer guard strips as well as the main border itself are filled with smaller floral motifs and echo the garden theme of the main field.
The rug has even medium wool pile on cotton foundation. It is heavy, sturdy, professionally cleaned and in very good condition with no issues.
