Antique Large Oversized Anatolian Borlu Rug, Early 20th Century Antique Borlu carpets from western Anatolia combine the soft tones of neighboring Oushak pieces with a sturdier and tighter weave. The pale ivory ground of this piece is framed by an elegant coral-colored border highlighted with complimentary tones of blue. The border and field both draw on a diverse array of elements such as classical Near Eastern cloud-bands and traces of persianate vine-scroll and “harshang” design with an over-all neoclassical aesthetic in keeping with both urban Ottoman and European taste.
