Antique Turkish Gazan Prayer Rug circa 1900

About the Item

The Turkish origin of this carpet remains undisputed. This magnificent example sprung from the most pure Islamic mysticism from the apex of the Mihrab in the shape of the mosque arch hangs the traditional ewer filled with carnations and the design strictly follows the commands of the Quran of non-representation of living beings. The amazing woven calligraphy in Ottoman tradition is an indication that this carpet was ordered by a prominent person to be made in Gazan Carpet Workshop, which bears the signature of the workshop being woven in the carpet. The dyes used to make this carpet are all organic, very few expert restorations were found on this rug and the condition is appropriate with its age and usage.
