Beautiful Large Tribal Antique Turkish Oushak Rug, Country of Origin / Rug Type: Antique Turkish Rug, Circa Date: 1900 – Rugs from the town of Oushak in Western Anatolia have exquisite beauty and unique designs that have made them favorites since the 16th century. The designs are geometric and stylized in a way that gives them a tribal feel. This gorgeous rug from the turn of the 20th century uses earthy browns and brilliant reds in a way that gives it a delightful character.
This rug has an all-over design that shows the spontaneity and individual choices of the weaver. Unlike the formal city carpets that were meticulously laid out before they were woven, the design of Oushak carpets evolves organically as the piece is created. Historically, Oushak weavers were known for their wide range of design motifs and gorgeous, unique color combinations. This is an excellent example of the artistry of these traditional weavers.
