This hand knotted wool distressed vintage Turkish Oushak rug features an all-over pattern spread across an abrashed ecru field. The pattern is comprised of dragon motifs in alternating colors surrounded by small rosettes. An eight-pointed star and blossom main border echoes the angular designs of the dragon motifs, while the blossoms and rosettes that comprise the guard borders repeats the floral motifs of the field. In Anatolian culture, dragons are believed to be mythical creatures that guard treasure and ward off evil and eight-pointed stars represent spirituality. The repetition of symbols creates not only an attractive yet meaningful design, but also yields an expertly crafted composition. The time-softened colors of this piece are quite attractive with the warm colors of the motif providing the right amount of color pop set against the neutral backdrop.
