Oversized antique Turkish Ghiordes brown handmade wool rug
Size: 17'6" × 19'8" (533 × 599 cm)
An exceptional late 19th century Turkish Ghiordes rug, the striated beige field with carefully-composed angular leafs around a central medallion with bold vinery, the spandrels with highly stylized geometric shapes within a beige abstract floral motif border.
Since the beginning of their production in the 18th century, Turkish rugs from the Anatolian town, Ghiordes have mostly been known for their rectilinear, colorful, multi-bordered antique prayer patterns. Ghiordes large area rugs often have open fields with mihrabs or hanging lamps and stylized architectural motifs that are found on 16th and 17th century Ottoman court rugs.
